We collect what it takes to take your order and ship your books, and as little else as we can. We do not sell your information and we do not run advertising.

Who we are

SilverĀ MountainĀ Press, P.O. Box 63, Covington, MI 49919. Write to us at the address on the contact page.

What we collect when you order

  • Your order: what you bought, the amounts, the date, and a reference number from our payment processor. We keep this for our accounts and for tax.
  • Your delivery name and address: taken from your payment processor account at checkout. We keep it for up to 120 days to pack and ship your order, then it is deleted from our systems.
  • Your email address: given to us by the payment processor. We use it once, to send your order confirmation. We do not keep it unless you tick the box to hear from us.
  • Payment details: handled entirely by our payment processor. We never see or store your card or account numbers.

Optional: staying in touch

At checkout you can tick a box to get occasional news by email, and another to get occasional print mail at your delivery address. Both are off unless you tick them. We keep what you agreed to and when, until you ask us to stop. Write to us and we will remove you.

Optional: a notice when a book is available

If a book says it is available soon, you can ask us to email you once when it can be bought. We send one message to confirm it is you, and nothing is kept as a request until you open the link in it. An unconfirmed request disappears after a week. When the book is available we send you one email and then erase your address from the request. You can stop it at any time with the link in either email, which erases your address straight away.

Audio samples

Some books come with a sample to listen to. Each sample has a private link for your order. We count how many times the link is played and keep a short code made from your device, only to limit sharing of the link. The link stops working after about 30 days.

Counting visits

When you open our shop we count that someone arrived. We do this with a short one-way code made from your network address and browser type, using a secret that changes every 28 days. The code cannot be turned back into your address, is not linked to your name, email or order, and is deleted within about six weeks. We use the counts to see how many people visit, return and buy. We also count, with no identifier at all, how many checkouts are started and paid. We do not use cookies and we do not use advertising or tracking services.

Server logs

Like any website, our servers keep an access log of each request: the time, the page asked for, the network address, the browser or program making the request, and whether the request succeeded. We use it to see which pages are read, to find broken links and problems, and to tell people apart from automated visitors such as search engines and AI crawlers, not to follow people from site to site, and we do not link it to your name, email or order. These logs are deleted after 14 days.

What the shop keeps in your browser

We do not use cookies. To make the shop work, your browser keeps a few small items in its own storage on your device, and they are not sent to us or used to follow you: your shopping bag (not sent to us until you start checkout); a copy of the catalog so the shop opens quickly (kept up to a week); a note of a checkout in progress, so an unfinished one can give its copies back; where you stopped in an audio sample; and, for the length of a visit only, which offers you have already seen. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings; the bag will be empty afterwards.

Who else sees your information

  • Our payment processor: takes your payment and sends us your delivery details. It has its own privacy notice.
  • Our shipping provider and the carrier: receive your name, delivery address and order contents so the parcel can be packed and delivered. They have their own privacy notices.
  • Our hosting and email provider: runs this website and sends your confirmation. It handles your information only for us.
  • The law: we may share information if we are legally required to.

We sell and ship to addresses in the United States only for now.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about your order, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete what we are not required to keep, by writing to us. We will answer within a reasonable time.

Children

This shop is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
